Greater Palm Springs will be celebrating its pride this weekend with a Pride Festival on Saturday and Sunday (11/7 and 11/8), a Pride Parade on Sunday (11/7), and an Official Women’s Party on Saturday night.
The Festival will take place from 10AM – 8PM on Saturday and 10AM – 6PM on Sunday at the Palm Springs Baseball Stadium, the Parade steps off at 10am from Alejo Road and moves south down historic Palm Canyon Drive to Ramon Road, and the Women’s Party – “Gloss” – will be at Hotel Zoso from 9pm-2am.
Festival tickets, Parade entry, and Festival booth donations help support the Palm Springs Pride events and Greater Palm Springs Pride organization.
The theme of this year’s Pride is, as Jack Schloeder, President Greater Palm Springs Pride, Inc., explains: “’Your Rights, Our Rights, Human Rights’ in recognition of the significant strides in the past year to advance individual rights, particularly gay marriage – and the course of events that brings us to the disappointing situation today. The parade and festival are a coming together of the many unique facets of the GLBT community and an incredible opportunity to promote self-expression, honor, diversity, and advance the cause of individual freedom for all.
“This year legally married couples are invited to all join together in leading the parade and those wishing to be married will be the last parade entry.
We trust that while celebrating with us you will party safely, and have a chance to enjoy all the talents, gifts, and resources our community and our beautiful valley have to offer. We also would like each of you to take a few moments to remember those who have brought us from Stonewall to the present. We still have a ways to go…”
